Missing HK already

Just arrived back in Singapore a few hours ago and my motherland welcomes me with pouring rain. Ahh.. I am missing the cooling fall like weather in Hong Kong, san the flu and cough bugs spreading around. Hopefully the weather in Singapore will get better over the next few days so that I can carry out my planned itinerary at ease. Keep fingers crossed.

Prelude pathetique

“When I look back on my life, it’s not that I don’t want to see things exactly as they happened, its just that I prefer to remember them in an artistic way. And truthfully, the lie of it all is much more honest because I invented it. Memories are not recycled like atoms and particles in quantum physics – they can be lost forever. It’s sort of like my past is an unfinished painting, and as the artist of that painting. I must fill in all the ugly holes and make it beautiful again” – Lady Gaga, Marry the night

Park island

Just 15 minutes ferry ride from Central Pier 2, Park island reminds me excatly of Discovery Bay – fresh air, limited residential development, beautiful beaches, seaside establishments, restricted vehicles and a hell lots of activities going on.

Thanks to Brina and Luke, we got ourselves a booth at Park island’s second bazaar. It was a great opportunity to get rid of all our unwanted clothes and accessories, especially for Jo and Chris who are moving back to Singapore. I can’t really bear to part from my precious wardrobe collection so I only contributed 3 dresses to our stall. In the end I managed to sell one of my H&M designs and made 10HKD for the entire day! Not a lot but it was hilarious to watch my business-minded friends trying hard to sell the clothes to the domestic helpers. Well I guess sometimes its not just all about the money.

On the other hand, Guinness had his second attempt taking ferry and we discovered today that he is scared of escalators! Awww… luckily mommy and daddy were there to carry him during his fear. XD .

Pitfalls of medical service

I really hate the medical service standard here. To think that we pay so much taxes each year, we do expect a certain level of healthcare standard from this wealthy country. Earlier today I accompanied W to a government hospital because this poor guy was diagnosed with Bronchitis for over a week and was referred by the GP to go for X-ray. After waited for over an hour, the bitch (aka the incompetent doctor) from A&E simply disregarded the references from the GP and even questioned our purpose of visiting A&E as if we were wasting her time to attend to more important cases (which btw there were no serious cases around us). Even after the X-ray, the bitch didn’t even bothered to explain W’s worsen condition and worse still, she prescribed all sort of irrelevant medicine for symptoms which W does not even has.

This is definitely not the first time I heard about the pitfalls within healthcare system here – for examples doctors denying to treat emergency patients when they do not pay and pregnant woman has to book months in advance for a bed vacancy to deliver. Even when I wanted to book an appointment with a gynecologist for my check up I was told to wait till next month, otherwise I just have to take my own risk with other doctors. Gawd.

Is there simply a lack of medical resources or is there too much demand from this fast growing nation?

I definitely miss the accessible and affordable polyclinics in Singapore.

Hot & cold all week long

Sorry for not devoting much time to blog lately because I have been in and out of sickbed. At first I was sick, then W fell sick and now both of us are sick! When I visited Doctor C this morning, I told him I have cough, flu, fever, sore throat and headache. As usual, he prescribed at least 7 types of medicine which I hope could expedite my recovery one way or the other. Luckily I am still on garden leave so there is no stress from work that I need to manage. The only sad thing is that I can’t really enjoy my holidays as I spend my recent daily routine taking medicine, sleeping and taking medicine until miracle happens. Well, at least I get chicken porridge delivered by a sweet boyfriend during lunch which makes the whole saga worthwhile.

Seems like everybody’s got a price
